dry felted birds with Robyn Smith Saturday 21st January 2023

The birds are all wool, Robyn says -

I can bring a core wool with me and all the other wool in case people don`t have them. I will bring needle, sponge to work on and wire for legs and if anyone wants to put the birds on a base they can bring one with them or ill bring some log slices as well. If people want to make an obscure bird then let me know so I can bring additional colours if needed and images to copy from.

Here are two examples of Robyn's work

You can work directly onto canvas if you have strong needles. Bring own canvas.

Slow stitch meditation - Andrea 24th Sept 2022

Dear Lincoln Stitchers,

Here are a few words about slow stitch meditation.

Slow Stitch Meditation is a relaxing, yet very creative process.

It is a bit like colouring in or doodling in your sketchbook, but think of it more as doodling or colouring in with thread.

Stitch Meditation doesn't have a real purpose to achieve some outcomes nor the deadline.

We only use crayon rubbing of natural leaves or other materials as a loose guidance which we may choose to follow.

It's not necessary to use any guidance at all... just stitching, a slowmeditative process to help us rid ourselves of daily stress and other hindrances accumulated over our lifetime. Empty our minds for the time being, concentrating on our hands, fabric and needle & thread. It could be 5 minutes or 5 hours, it's your call.

We may use our final product to embellish something purposeful, if we choose to, but that's not the intention of the slow stitch meditation.

Slow stitch meditation evolves itself, it doesn't need to be perfect nor pretty. It serves only us, The Stitchers aka Stitching Beings, to bring our mind in peace.

I personally found that relaxing with Stitch Meditation over the 30 days in January is the best time to free my mind of all duties, expectations and pressures of Christmas time and New Year's festivities. It's also my time to detox from social media. I usually start on the 2nd of January and carry on throughout the month. It's a liberating process bringing a real quality of focus and concentration on my own being. I hope you will find this purposeless process equally beneficial.

With love, Andrea

A Couple of Finished Knot Gardens

Our May meeting saw us doing embroidered knot gardens.  Here are a couple of completed ones that were presented at the June meeting:

June Stitch Club - Three Corners 25th June 2022

A good day was had by all (8 in total), as we had a go at three different things:

  • Making an origami box
  • Iris folding to make a card
  • Braiding
Here are some of the results....

And these are some of the uses for the braid:

Cords for cushions, straps for bags, fastening scissors to their keeper etc etc.

Why not join us in July when we shall be doing smocking, 16th July at the Thomas Garrett Buildings, Heighington.

Embroidered Knot Gardens

Today, Jacqui took us through creating our own embroidered knot gardens, where we were encouraged to use a wide variety of threads to build up a textured 3-D imitation of a stately home's ornamental garden.

Here are some of the results.  I think a good day was had by all!  And as usual, Jacqui left the group with some homework!!!
