In our forthcoming April stitch club, Saturday 20th April, Judith will be showing us how to make a serviette box or gift box, like the ones below.
You will create a pattern whatever size you want, so it could be a small gift box. Below are the requirements to make a 7" box to fit serviettes:
Box
- 1 base 7" x 7"
- 4 sides 7" x 3" or 4" high
Lid
- 1 top 7 1/4" x 7 1/4" high
- 4 side 7 1/4" x 1" high
Lighter card for lining inside:
Box
- 1 base 6 3/4" x 6 3/4"
- 4 sides 6 3/4" x 2 3/4" or 3 3/4"
Lid
- 7" x7"
Fabric - firm weave - furnishing or cotton or outside
cotton for the lining inside.
Enough fabric to cover box, sides, lid and sides - 1/2" metre (this should be enough to make 2). As long as you have a piece 8" x 36" for the sides of the box and lid; you could use remnants.
A piece of interlining 8" x 36" for the sides of the box and lid.
Thin wadding enough to cover the outside of the card for the box, lid and sides.
Pirtt stick glue or any glue that dries quickly to attach wadding and interlining to the card.
Double sided tape.
Matching thread for the main outside fabric
Thread for using to hold fabric on card.
Sewing needles.
Scissors, fabric, paper, light card.
Curring mat for cutting thick card and craft knife.
Ruler and pencil.
The stitch club will be held as usual at the Thomas Garrett Buildings in Heighington, running from 10:00 - 15:00. Please bring a packed lunch. Tea/coffee/biscuits will be supplied.
We look forward to seeing you there.
