Saturday 21st May: Embroidered Knot Gardens with Jacqui

Our next stitch club on 21st May will be embroidered knot gardens, run by Jacqui.  She will have some supplies with her, such as the canvas, a mini pom-pom maker and some florists wire, but the choice of threads to use is completely your own.

If you can come with a vague idea of a design, we are going to do a mini garden about 4 x 4 inches.

Supply wise you will need your normal sewing kit including scissors, tapestry needles of various sizes, Jacqui will have milliners needles with her in case anyone wants to try their hand at bullion knots.  the canvas is a 20 count mono canvas, but if you think that will be too fine, a smaller count could be used.

The idea is to create as texture type piece, using stranded floss, ribbon, wool, fancy threads, goldwork, etc.  Basically anything you would like to put on it.  If you have a colour scheme, that's fine.  We are going to use textural stitches to build up a 3-D garden, so stitches like French knots, bullion knots, turkey stitch, textural tapestry stitches, woven stitches, needle lace stitches, you can put beads on it, buttons, felt (padding it if you wish), whatever takes your fancy.  You can use florists wire to create a more textural plant, the sky is the limit!!!

Jacqui has finished her sample, and now just needs to mount it, but here it is:

Here is some other inspiration for you!!!

The only thing to remember is that you need to be able to get your chosen thread/wool/etc through the holes, so chunky wools you won't, but you could couch them down.

I have to apologise as I have only 8 images, from the 10 of you there. Please send me photos of the missing pieces, together with photos of your finished work, thanks.
