Maggi Ayling and Tapestry Weaving 23rd February 2018

Maggi Ayling brought a large number of small trial pieces; each had been made in advance of a bigger piece, to try out how the colours worked together. She emphasized how it was often necessary to work sideways, especially with vertical images.She talked about the earliest Coptic tapestries and had a book illustrating these, including this Egyptian piece, 4th century AD. Sadly the last minute change of venue jolted procedure on every level.
