Traditional Needle Lace - May Stitch Club

There weren't too many of us today, but we all enjoyed the needle lace class.  For all, it was the first time of trying it, so full marks for wanting to try it!

Here are some of the efforts:

Well done to everyone!

Our next stitch club will be on Saturday 20th June, when Bron will be taking us through the popular Chicken Scratch.  Details will follow shortly.

May Stitch Club - Traditional Needle Lace

Our next stitch club will be on Saturday 16th May at the Thomas Garrett Building, Heighington.  Running from 10:00 – 15:00.

Jacqui will be taking us through creating a piece of traditional needle lace which you can use to create a motif for some clothing, or if wire is added, a 3-D piece.

Usually needle lace is quite fine, but for this piece we’re going slightly heavier so you can more easily learn and use the stitches.  If you haven’t got Perle cotton, a thicker crochet cotton will suffice, like a 40, 50 or even a 60.

Requirements List

·       A strip of calico 18” x 6”
·       Either some sticky backed plastic, or thick tracing paper 6” x 6”
·       The actual design
·       Perle 8 or 12 cotton in your own choice of colour (you can use variegated if you like)
·       Matching sewing cotton
·       A sewing needle
·       A tapestry or ballpoint needle that will take the thickness of your perle cotton.
·       Paper scissors and embroidery scissors
·       *OPTIONAL* - Fine florist’s wire if you’re thinking of something 3-D

As usual, the cost is £5.00 for members and £7.50 for non-members.  Please let Judith or Jacqui know if you are coming so we know how many instruction sheets to print off.

You will need to provide yourself with a packed lunch.  Alternatively, there is a shop in the village that does food.  Tea, coffee, biscuits will be provided.

We look forward to seeing you there.
