Shirley Rowley Stitch Club April 12

Shirley Rowley will again be leading a stitch club on Saturday 21April 2012. Shirley will show us how to make a beautiful and individual piece of textile art from our prosaic tape measures.

Katie Chaplin's Folded patchwork

Some of the hexagons that were created using the Japanese folded patchwork technique.

Japanese homes are generally small so this technique was popular as backing and wadding are added during the making of each hexagon.

Katie Chaplin - Ceremonial Kimono

Friday 30th March saw Katie Chaplin give us a very interesting talk and demonstration of how a kimono is worn. The layers seemed to going on and on and on! No wonder they are very upright and sedate in them. It was really very interesting. Above are some photos of the back and front of the finished article.

Katie Chaplin will be speaking to Lincoln Bailgate on Friday 30th March, on The Kimono, followed by the Japanese Tea Ceremony.

Young Embroiderers' Session on Woven Bags

"Woven Bags".
These were made by weaving different threads and wools in a spiral
around a card base. After the weaving was completed and tied off,
The children made beads with Friendly Plastic.

March Stitch Club - 3D Dragonfly & Flowers

A good day was had by all at the March Stitch Club run by Jacqui Armitage, where members used embroidery stitches such as chain, whipped chain, French knots and satin stitch to create flowers and a 3-D dragonfly with wired organza wings, in their preferred colour schemes.

As usual, Jacqui gave everyone homework, i.e. they had to finish their samples at home!

3-D Dragonfly Stitch Club Saturday 17th March 2012

Just a reminder about our next stitch club - a 3-D Dragonfly in beads, embroidery and organza, which is being run by Jacqui Armitage. The requirements list is below:

2 x 4” Embroidery Hoops	1x6” Embroidery Hoop
Tracing Paper & Dressmakers Carbon	Uncovered Cake/Florist wire
6” square of calico	2 x 4” squares of organza in 2 colours
Kreinik Blending Filament in black or black/gold	*8” square of ‘posh’ material to mount
Crewel, Beading, & Darning needles & sewing kit	Matching or clear Nymo thread

*If you are planning on using silk to mount this embroidery you will also need an additional 8” square of calico to back it with.

Flower Requirements

• 2 or 3 shades of green embroidery thread
• 2 or 3 shades of another colour for the flowers
• 2 or 3 shades of seed beads to match the flowers

Dragonfly Requirements

• 3 colours of embroidery thread to compliment the colours of your organza – preferably with a sheen
• Bugle, Seed, Petite and 1 x 4mm bead to compliment your 3 shades of embroidery thread.
• Kreinik Blending Filament to contrast against your organza.
• A small amount of Kapok to stuff the thorax.

There will be some materials available, such as calico, organza, blending thread, and some silk, for a small charge.
