French Knitting with Bailgate Branch 27.1.12

For Friday's practical evening, members and guests revived the traditional craft of French Knitting, with a gift of hand turned wooden bobbins. Some of us remember our dads tapping four panel pins into a wooden cotton reel and with any yarn we could filch from Mum's oddments bag , off we went to make yards of french knitting. Fun but often useless! But now - what a showcase for fancy

They produced a collaged background with an image/focal point of Christmas using recycled gift paper, cards and foils. This was painted and waxed, then embroidered with free machine work.
